Paintings and Photographs
This gallery features paintings and photographs made and taken during the
last three years. The paintings are clearly influenced in style by abstract expressionism but I'd prefer them to be labelled abstract illustration, influenced in most cases by the atmosphere, ambience and colour-play of my travels throughout Eastern Europe. The photographs more graphically cover the same territory, with an emphasis on the bizarre and surreal scenes one often encounters. In such countries as Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia and Poland, it's clear that the journey from totalitarianism to democracy has been frought with economic and political difficulties. The stain of communism remains in the architecture and it's utilities leaving images both contradictory and evocative. Just follow the link below.

Poetry
These poems are a response to those experiences and encounters in life where there is no script, signpost or map. They revel in the prosaic, the small gifts and dramas discovered in the random. They record the frequent and often confounding return journeys’ between dissonance and consonance. My first collection ‘The Early Hours’ was published in 1981 and I've since been published widely in magazines and small press publications including the excellent Chocolate News, Vortex and The Poetry Can.

Collaborations with Mary-Jane Evans
Mary Jane Evans and Louis Hawkins present their third collaborative exhibition exploring their mutual fascination with the topography and textures of childhood landscapes: Dorset and the Jurassic Coast and East Anglia. Mary Jane Evans through sculpture and ceramics, Louis Hawkins through painting and photography use metaphors of erosion in the natural world and destruction in the man-made,to create a compelling vision detailing the strength and fragility of memory and personal history.
